Why, in an age of electronic wizardry, digital imaging and computerized optics, would anyone want
to make the drastic and retrogressive decision to pick up a pinhole camera and play with it?
Perhaps the answer lies in the heart of that word, “play”. Pinhole photography exists in a realm
beyond pre-visualization. Filled with surprises and happy accidents, it is primal, surreal, intuitive
and personal. It is pure photography, elusive and therapeutic, yet strangely metaphysical and
mysterious.
Using a pinhole camera requires a concerted, conscious effort, yet it’s a crapshoot out of your
control. Pinhole photography is different things to different people, and therein lies its unique place
among creative photographers today.
